Case Study:

Exotica

Leveraging DevOps automation and AWS tools enables enhanced scalability, faster deployments, and streamlined workflows for optimal business performance

Background

Exotica faced major issues due to an unstable hosting platform, leading to frequent downtime, lost sales, and poor customer experiences, damaging both revenue and brand reputation. Slow development cycles hindered their ability to adapt quickly, while peak seasons like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day saw performance struggles due to increased traffic. Additionally, the lack of an efficient workflow system complicated order tracking, increasing error rates and impacting customer satisfaction.

Proposed Solution

As DevOps experts, we have created a standardized terraform code to deploy a three-tiered architecture, with all the needed components.
In our design, we focused on high availability and scalability by employing auto-scaling groups that would increase the capacity based on the CPUUtilization CloudWatch metric, and by using a multi-AZ RDS cluster with read replicas.
In order to accommodate the increased traffic during the high season, we have created a solution that would automatically increase the auto-scaling group’s capacity and upgrade their RDS instance type.
We have assisted in designing and deploying a new workflow system which would provide the customer with great visibility of order and their status across their various operation teams and roles.
And finally, we have setup a CICD pipeline in order to streamline their deployment process on both E-Com and Workflow application. The pipeline use services line AWS CodeCommit, AWS CodeBuild, and AWS CodeDeploy.

Metrics for Success

By leveraging auto-scaling groups and automation tools, the company has significantly improved its ability to manage high traffic during peak periods, ensuring better availability and performance. Enhanced order tracking and monitoring across teams have streamlined processes, boosting operational efficiency. With AWS CodePipeline, deployments and testing are now faster and smoother, minimizing downtime and allowing quicker feature updates. These improvements have reduced deployment failures, sped up time-to-market, and increased overall sales, while fostering better communication and order fulfillment across the company.

Conclusion

Exotica’s transition to a more stable and scalable hosting solution has delivered measurable improvements in performance, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. By leveraging AWS services such as auto-scaling, multi-AZ RDS, and CI/CD pipelines, they’ve not only resolved their hosting challenges but also optimized their operational workflows. These enhancements have resulted in better handling of high traffic during peak seasons, faster time-to-market for new features, and a smoother order management process. Ultimately, the solution has contributed to higher sales and a more reliable, scalable infrastructure that supports Exotica’s future growth.
